In conjunction with the 12th edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup 2024, an Umpires Development Workshop was held for 14 local umpires from Oct 24-26 in Johor Bahru.
It was held in collaboration with the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) Umpiring Committee and the Johor Hockey Association (JHA).
The event was graced by Dato’ Majid Manjit Abdullah, President of JHA, Mr Ranjit Singh, Chairman of MHC Umpiring Committee, En. Faqarudin Abdul Kadir, JHA Honorary Secretary, Mr. Ravinderpal Singh (MHC Umpiring Board Committee) and Mr. B Shaji, JHA Chairman of Umpires Committee.
Mr Ranjit, who is also President of Penang Hockey Association, said “These are our potentials for the senior and junior leagues. We need to create the next batch of international umpires.”
“All the umpires have completed the Level 3 Umpires Course. We are using this tournament as a guide line to educate and guide them on what are the requirements of umpires at international stage.”
Course conductor is Mr. Ged Curran from Scotland, who is the FIH leading Panel Outdoor Umpire manager. He was assisted by Mr Ananthavale Kathiravale, former international umpire and FIH technical official.
