DEFENDING champions Great Britain and New Zealand eked out a 2-2
draw in the fifth and last round-robin clash in the 2025 Sultan of Johor Cup
at the Johor Hockey Stadium, Taman Daya today.
Following the draw, four-time champions Great Britain finished third in the
standing with seven points, Pakistan fourth spot (4 points), Malaysia fifth
(4 points) while the Kiwis are at the basement, having amassed four points.
Great Britain and Pakistan will battle for the bronze medal while Malaysia
and New Zealand go into action in the 5-6 th place match.
Former champions Australia and India advanced to Saturday (Oct 18) final.
The Pakistanis drew 3-3 with Australia in a pulsating match with a superb
comeback after trailing 1-3 by the 47 th minute, while India edged Malaysia’s
Young Tigers 2-1 in earlier matches.
Australia tops the standings on 12 points and India settled for second spot
with 10 points.
Jordan Whittleston scored a brace for New Zealand (3 rd and 50 th ) via
penalty corner conversions, while Casper Lea (16 th ) and captain Max
Anderson replied through a field goal and penalty corner conversion
respectively.
New Zealand have yet to capture the prestigious SOJC title. Their best
performance was finishing in fourth place in 2014 and 2024.
